NEW YORK (Diya TV) – More than 24,000 Indian Americans signed up to attend the “Modi & US: Progress Together” event at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on September 22. The number of registrations far exceeds the venue’s 15,000 capacity.

Organized by the Indo-American Community of USA (IACU), the event will feature an address by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This event is a decade after Modi’s last big community engagement in the New York region, where he spoke at a packed Madison Square Garden in 2014. The Long Island event promises to showcase cultural pride and cohesion as Indian Americans from 42 states join in, especially those from the tri-state area.

IACU said 590 community organizations in the country have participated in facilitating the registrations as “Welcome Partners.”

The event will feature cultural performances and representatives of well-known Indian Americans in business, science, entertainment, and arts. Organizers have already said that the gathering will represent all and be inclusive, with representatives of all religious communities in attendance.

It aims to celebrate the success of the Indian American community and the growing bond between the US and India. It will also be a precursor to Modi’s September 26 speech for global leaders at the United Nations General Assembly session in New York. His speech is likely to touch upon some major international topics: climate change, the global economic recovery, and India’s place in the world.

The visit by Prime Minister Modi has whipped up excitement among the Indian American diaspora in the United States, who largely attribute the rising global stature of India to his leadership.

With Indian Americans being the most affluent and educated demographic in the United States and both Vice President Harris and former President Trump trying to win favor with the diaspora in the November election, the Modi event comes at a fascinating time in America’s history.
