WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Second Lady Usha Vance is embracing life as a mother of four and says the newest addition to her family has brought even more happiness to their home. In her first interview since welcoming her fourth child with Vice President JD Vance, she spoke about family life, parenting, and her commitment to children’s literacy. She also shared how her growing family has inspired new routines while she continues to expand her podcast, “Storytime with the Second Lady.”

Speaking with Fox News Digital on Tuesday, Usha Vance said the transition to life with four children has gone smoothly. She described the experience as joyful and said her older children have welcomed their baby brother with excitement.

“They’re always fighting over holding him,” she said. She added that her children eagerly help with diaper changes, clothing, and keeping the baby entertained. As a result, she believes their interests fit together naturally, and everyone benefits from spending time together.

JD Vance and Usha Vance announced the birth of their son, Alec Neel Vance, in an Instagram post on July 20. The couple said their son arrived on July 19. They also shared that both mother and baby were healthy and that their children were thrilled to meet their new brother.

Even so, Usha Vance said she wants each child to receive personal attention. Therefore, she and the vice president spend one-on-one time with each of their children whenever possible. She explained that they leave the Vice President’s Residence almost every day to enjoy simple outings together.

She recalled taking one of her children to a bookstore, lunch, and a nearby shop. She said those moments help each child feel valued and connected. Although she expects challenges in the future, she believes the family has adapted well so far.

In addition, she joked that her children see the new baby as another member of their team instead of someone competing for attention. She laughed that the parents are now outnumbered two to one.

However, Usha Vance admitted she felt uncertain before deciding to have another child. She said her family already felt complete, and her children had reached a new stage of life. Still, she and her husband chose to embrace the change.

Now, she believes that decision strengthened the family. She said taking what felt like a risk made their home even happier. She also said the family looks forward to the years ahead as they watch their children grow together.

Alongside family life, Usha Vance continues to focus on one of her signature projects as second lady. She recently launched new episodes of her podcast, “Storytime with the Second Lady,” which encourages children to enjoy reading while inspiring creativity.

The newest episode features author Jackie Oshry reading her children’s book about summer camp. According to Usha Vance, the podcast aims to show young listeners that books can spark their own ideas and stories.

She said children should see that they can do more than simply read. Instead, they can imagine new adventures, create original characters, and even write books themselves. She believes those skills help children build confidence while developing a lifelong love of reading.

Furthermore, she explained that literacy became one of her main priorities because reading has always played an important role in her own life. She enjoys sharing books with her children and hopes other families will make reading part of their daily routines.

She also said she wanted to make a practical difference during her time as second lady. For that reason, she chose to support literacy instead of focusing on a broader issue. She stressed that strong reading skills can help children succeed in school and throughout life.

As Usha Vance balances motherhood with her public role, she says family remains at the center of everything she does.
