SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – Republican Senator Marco Rubio announced bipartisan legislation to ban China’s popular social media app TikTok, ratcheting up pressure on owner ByteDance Ltd amid U.S. fears the app could be used to spy on Americans and censor content. A companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives was sponsored by Republican congressman Mike Gallagher and Indian American Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi.
Indian American Nihar Malaviya will take over as interim CEO of Penguin Random House, one of the largest publishing companies in the nation. The publishing executive has been president and chief operating officer of the publisher’s American division Penguin Random House US since 2019, according to the publishing house’s website.
In California, Murali Srinivasan won the race for the open District 3 Sunnyvale City Council seat by one single vote. The Indian American received 2,813 votes while opponent Justin Wang received 2,812 votes.
