CHICAGO (Diya TV) — Republican congressional candidate Jennifer Davis is highlighting her technology career and business ties to India as she campaigns for the Illinois House seat held by Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi.
Davis faces Democrat Melissa Bean in November. Krishnamoorthi opted to run for the U.S. Senate rather than seek reelection to the House.
In an interview with IANS, Davis said she and her husband founded a technology company while she attended college. The business later established operations in Kolkata before moving its India office to Hyderabad.
Davis said Indian employees eventually accounted for most of the company’s workforce. She described helping employees and their families relocate to the United States, find housing and settle into their communities.
“I really fell in love with the culture when we started to go to India,” she said.
According to Davis, the company employed hundreds of people before its sale to private equity. She subsequently continued in an operating role and later served on its board.
Davis said those experiences shaped her concerns about H-1B visas and the difficulties international students face when seeking employment after graduation. She supports clearer pathways for immigrants who want to work and build their lives in the United States.
Technology also features prominently in her campaign. In responses to WTTW’s candidate questionnaire, Davis proposed a “Digital Dome” framework to address cyberattacks, online exploitation, data privacy and artificial intelligence risks.
She also advocated tax relief for families and small businesses, reduced federal spending and fewer business regulations.
Davis won the Republican primary in March. Bean, a former congresswoman, won the Democratic nomination and is seeking to return to the House.
