Ian Grillot met with Indian diplomats upon his discharge from the hospital Thursday.

SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Ian Grillot is being hailed as a hero in some circles after his intervention in the triple shooting that left Srinivas Kuchibhotla dead, he recently received a visit from the region’s consul general of India after being released from the hospital.

Grillot met Thursday at the University of Kansas Hospital with Anupam Ray, Houston based consul general of India, which serves Kansas and seven other states. Also at the meeting were Consul R.D. Joshi and Vice Consul Harpal Singh.

Ray expressed to Grillot and his family how grateful everyone back in India was for his intervention on Feb. 22, the night 51-year-old Adam Purinton allegedly shot Alok Madasani and his friend, Srinivas Kuchibhotla. Madasani, also from India, was wounded in the incident. The men were alledgedly shot because the gunman thought they were Middle Eastern.

Grillot was wounded when he tried to stop the gunman.

Ray shared a tweet by Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj citing Grillot’s “heroism” and wishing him a speedy recovery.

The diplomats extended an invitation to Grillot and his family to India as soon as he is able to travel.
