VANCOUVER (Diya TV) –   Preliminary hearings are set to begin in the case of fatal Vancouver stabbing. Inderdeep Singh Gosal is facing a charge of second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing Paul Schmidt, 37, in the patio area of a Starbucks near the intersection of Granville Street and Pender Street in the city’s downtown core on March 26, 2023. He is expected in court Monday to face charges of second-degree murder.

Gosal allegedly used a knife to repeatedly stab Schmidt. Despite first responders administering first aid, Schmidt died after he was rushed to the hospital. The daylight stabbing was witnessed by dozens of bystanders, with video of the incident widely shared online. Schmidt’s wife and young daughter were reportedly at the scene as the violence unfolded.

A judge has placed a sweeping publication ban on all submissions and evidence given in the courtroom during the preliminary inquiry in the case of a British Columbia man accused of stabbing another man to death outside a Vancouver cafe last year.

Schmidt’s mother says she was told the dispute began after her son asked another man not to vape near his toddler daughter.

A preliminary inquiry is a judicial hearing used to establish whether Crown has enough evidence against an accused to proceed to trial.
