WASHINGTON D.C. (Diya TV) – Diwali went out with a massive bang in Washington DC last week as prominent lawmakers gathered to celebrate the festival of lights with Indian Americans, Hindus, and other South Asians. BAPS along with partner organizations like The Asian American Hotel Owners Association, The Hindu American Foundation, the Federation of Jain Associations in North America and The Art of Living Foundation all showed up for the celebration.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley addressed a possible 2024 presidential run, saying she’s “never lost” an election and is looking at a White House bid “in a serious way.” The Indian American is a staunch Republican and was also once Governor of South Carolina.

In a bold move, Starbucks is closing its first store in Seattle to unionize. A company spokesperson says it’s due to safety and security in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. But workers say the company is retaliating. Indian American Laxman Narasimhan is the company’s new CEO. This location is now the 4th union store in Seattle to be shut down since July.
