COLOMBO (Diya TV) — Sri Lankan lawmakers chose six-time Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as president Wednesday to succeed the ousted leader who fled the country in a vote that risks reigniting political turmoil in the troubled South Asian island nation. The 73 year old is a seasoned politician with wide experience in diplomatic and international affairs. But he is unpopular among voters who view him as a holdover from the last regime.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for administering 2 billion Covid vaccinations. Gates went on to say he is grateful for the continued partnership with Indian vaccine manufacturers and applauded the government’s handling of the pandemic.
US Securities and Exchange Commission’s top enforcement director is Indian American Gurbir Grewal and he says they’re very concerned about digital engagement practices that brokerages may use to encourage more buying and selling of stocks on Wall Street. His comments during a House subcommittee hearing on Tuesday were the latest signal from the regulator that a crackdown is coming for practices that critics refer to as the gamification of investing.
