WASHINGTON D.C. (Diya TV) – The White House continues to seek Senate confirmation for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as the next US ambassador to India. The Biden administration announced the nomination of Garcetti back in 2021. It was initially blocked by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley because of allegations of inappropriate behavior by one of his senior staffers. The Democrats are also reluctant to bring his nomination for confirmation before the full Senate since there’s still concern they don’t have enough votes.
With control of the U.S. Senate on the line next week, Republican Senate candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Brigadier General Don Bolduc are aggressively courting Indian and Hindu American voters. Diya TV’s Ravi Kapur spoke exclusively to them about their platforms and specific efforts to engage the diaspora.
The Reserve Bank of India finally debuted its digital rupee. Officials say it will be different from Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies in the sense it will be backed by the government. The digital rupee will also be the equivalent of holding a physical rupee.
