COLUMBUS, Ohio (Diya TV) – Usha Vance, the wife of Ohio Sen. JD Vance, addressed her husband’s controversial comments in the past about unmarried, childless women, labeling them as a “quip” taken out of context. She defended him amid heightened criticism following his nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate alongside Donald Trump.

In a Monday interview on “Fox & Friends,” Usha Vance explained, “The reality is, he made a quip to make a substantive point. I just wish people would focus on those points rather than picking apart specific phrases.”

Since joining Trump’s ticket, JD Vance has faced renewed scrutiny over old comments, including a clip where he suggested parents should have more political power than those without children and referred to Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats as “childless cat ladies.”

Usha Vance clarified that her husband intended to highlight the challenges of parenting in the U.S. and the policies that make it harder for parents to succeed. “That’s the conversation we should be having,” she emphasized.

JD Vance has not distanced himself from these past remarks. In a SiriusXM interview with Megyn Kelly, he explained that his “sarcastic comment” was not a criticism of people without children but a critique of Democrats advocating for what he called “anti-family” policies. “The substance of what I said is true,” he stated, adding he has “nothing against cats.”

Addressing women who felt offended by JD Vance’s comments, Usha Vance assured that her husband would never disparage those trying to start families. She acknowledged the valid reasons some choose not to have children, stressing, “Let’s focus on how we can make it easier for families in 2024.”

JD Vance’s record shows mixed actions on family-related policies. He blocked a Democrat-backed bill to protect IVF but supported a Republican bill reaffirming nationwide IVF access.

Usha Vance also addressed her husband’s past critical comments about Trump, which have resurfaced. She stated that she has grown to understand Trump’s goals and believes in the positive impact of the Trump-Vance ticket. “If I didn’t feel the ticket could do real good for the country, I wouldn’t support it,” she said.

Despite political disagreements, Usha Vance expressed trust in her husband’s intentions and commitment to making positive changes. “Even when we disagree, I trust JD’s intentions,” she noted, describing their discussions as constructive and beneficial.

Since Trump named JD Vance as his running mate, critics have highlighted Vance’s past controversial comments, particularly his remarks about “childless cat ladies” and his tax proposals targeting individuals without children. Supporters argue these criticisms are an attempt to derail the Trump-Vance campaign.

Usha Vance, in her interview, urged the public to look beyond the sound bites and understand the broader conversations her husband is trying to initiate about supporting families in America.
