SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Diya TV) — The Sacramento Sant Sagar Gurdwara hosted an interfaith gathering that brought people of different religious backgrounds together in the name of unity, understanding, and community solidarity. It was a lively event attracting regional faith community leaders and members for meaningful dialogue and mutual respect.
The meeting sought to provide an open forum to discuss the significance of interfaith cooperation in today’s world. Participants included community leaders from Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, and Sikh faiths. The participants shared their respective faith traditions and discussed common social challenges that could be addressed together.
Dr. Harjit Singh, a Sikh scholar and one of the organizers of the event, welcomed guests by stressing the importance of unifying all religious groups. “In a world that often divides us, we need to come together and celebrate what unites us, our shared humanity,” Dr. Singh said. He added that the Gurdwara is a community center that welcomes people from all walks of faiths, learn, share, and collaborate.
Elk Grove City Mayor Bobby Singh-Allen also organized the event and noted it was Sikh Awareness & Appreciation Month. The event observed the 9th Guru Shri Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom, paying tribute to his ultimate sacrifice in 1675 to safeguard the Hindu community’s religious freedom. The event also explored his teachings and legacy.
After musical performances, prayers, and discussions on various issues like peace, social justice, and the role of religion in addressing world issues, the group enjoyed a meal (langar) together.
Sikh leaders pointed out the importance of such gatherings as they break religious and cultural barriers, thus providing the opportunity to break stereotypes and build lasting relationships. Members of other faiths expressed gratitude for being invited to such a gathering as it is crucial in an increasingly interdependent world to create peace and understanding.
