MISSISSAUGA, India (Diya TV) — Two men are under arrest and multiple charges laid after a stolen vehicle was recovered in Mississauga Wednesday morning. Officers from the 12 Division Community Incident Response Team were on proactive patrol in the Goreway Drive and Brandon Gate Drive area at approximately 8 a.m. when they located an occupied stolen Lexus RX 350.
The police said the suspects tried to run away, leading to a short foot chase. The suspects were arrested and officers laid several charges including drug, stolen property and weapons offenses.
Bhawanjeet Singh, 23, and Gurdeep Singh, 28, who have no fixed address, now face a series of criminal charges. Bhawanjeet Singh has been charged with dangerous operation, mischief over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Meanwhile, Gurdeep Singh faces similar charges, with additional counts for possession of a controlled substance and breach of a release order.
Police take into custody the suspects who went into the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton to a bail hearing. They don’t have a house anywhere, police said they add.
The incident unfolded when officers on routine patrol spotted the stolen Lexus. According to authorities, police reacted quickly to stop the vehicle from fleeing, but before they could do so, several police cruisers were damaged. The suspects attempted to run away on foot, but officers pursued them and apprehended them shortly after.
The charges against the two men include possession of stolen property, an increasingly common issue in Ontario, where car thefts have been on the rise in recent years. Peel Regional Police have been ramping up efforts to combat these crimes, particularly in high-traffic areas like Mississauga and Brampton. The recovery of the stolen Lexus and subsequent arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb vehicle theft in the region.
Both suspects are likely to appear in court again after their initial bail hearings.
Peel Regional Police have urged residents to be vigilant, report suspicious activity, and take precautions to protect their vehicles as high-end vehicles are targeted by theft rings in suburban neighborhoods.
