MANCHESTER, N.H. (Diya TV) — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was seriously injured in a car accident Saturday evening in New Hampshire, his security team confirmed Sunday. Giuliani, 81, was transported to a nearby trauma center after his rented vehicle was struck from behind at high speed.
Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security, said the former mayor was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg. Ragusa did not disclose the hospital where Giuliani was treated or his current condition.
Despite his injuries, Giuliani remains in good spirits. Ragusa wrote on X that he is “recovering tremendously” and thanked supporters for their prayers. He emphasized that the accident was not a targeted attack.
Ragusa said Giuliani was involved in a separate incident earlier on Saturday. A woman, who had been a victim of domestic violence, flagged him down for help. Giuliani reportedly rendered assistance and called 911. He stayed at the scene until police arrived to ensure the woman’s safety.
Ragusa clarified that the car accident happened later while Giuliani was traveling on the highway. He added that Giuliani’s business partner and medical provider were contacted and arrived at the hospital to oversee his care.
Giuliani’s son, Andrew, took to social media to express gratitude to supporters. He wrote, “Thank you to all the people who have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world.”
Security officials emphasized that the crash was accidental. Ragusa asked the public to respect Giuliani’s privacy and recovery. He also urged people to avoid spreading unfounded conspiracy theories regarding the incident.
Giuliani served as New York City’s mayor from 1994 to 2001. He gained national attention for his leadership during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Over the years, Giuliani has remained a high-profile figure in U.S. politics and law.
Authorities have not released additional details about the crash, including whether other vehicles were involved.
