SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – Rajinder Pal Singh of Elk Grove, California, received a 45 month prison sentence for smuggling hundreds of Indian nationals into the US. Also known as Jaspal Gill, the Department of Justice says Singh smuggled more than 800 people across the Canadian border to Washington state, making over $500,000. A Homeland Security investigation revealed Singh used Uber to transport illegal border crossers. Singh is in the U.S. illegally and will likely face deportation after serving his sentence.

The Supreme Court issued a divided ruling on affirmative action policies at Harvard and the University of North Carolina. The court ruled against the programs, stating they lack measurable objectives, employ race negatively, involve stereotyping, and lack meaningful endpoints. However, the court did not completely rule out considering race in admissions, as long as it is tied to a quality of character or unique ability. President Biden expressed strong disagreement with the decision and emphasized the importance of diversity and opening doors of opportunity.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized an Iowa newspaper for publishing a “bigotry” cartoon. The Quad City Times apologized and retracted the cartoon, which depicted Ramaswamy facing racist remarks from Trump supporters. The paper severed ties with the cartoonist. Ramaswamy accepted the apology but opposed the cartoonist’s firing, emphasizing empathy and discouraging cancellation.
