PARIS (Diya TV) —
At just 16 years old, Quincy Wilson is on the brink of making history at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Maryland native, who turned heads at the U.S. track and field trials in June, will become the youngest American male to compete in an Olympic track and field event when he steps onto the track on Friday for the men’s 4×400-meter relay.
Wilson’s journey to Paris began with a stellar performance at the 2024 Florida Relays, where he clocked 45.19 seconds, securing an automatic bid to the U.S. Olympic trials. Although he missed qualifying in the individual 400-meter dash, Wilson’s efforts were nothing short of extraordinary. He shattered Darrell Robinson’s 42-year-old under-18 record twice at the trials, running 44.66 seconds in the first round and 44.59 seconds in the semifinals. His impressive times earned him a place in the relay pool and, eventually, on Team USA.
In July, Wilson was ecstatic when he learned he would be added to the U.S. relay pool after his individual bid fell short. “When I got the call, I was like, I was ecstatic,” Wilson shared. “Everybody dreams about going to the Olympics as a young kid.”
Earlier this week, there was uncertainty about whether Wilson would compete after he missed the 4×400 mixed relay heats. However, he will now lead off for the U.S. relay team during the opening heat on Friday morning. With his blistering 44.20-second race at a tuneup in Florida just three weeks ago, the track world is buzzing with anticipation for what Wilson might achieve.
