SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Pradeep Gupta, who was first appointed to the South San Francisco City Council back in 2012, was officially sworn in as the city’s mayor Monday.

Gupta had been appointed to the council for a one-year term back in 2012, and subsequently won re-election in 2013 and will be up for re-election again in 2017.

Aside from his duties on the council, Gupta additionally serves on a multitude of subcommittees, including the South San Francisco Unified School District Liaison Committee, Biotechnology Education and Workforce Development Steering Committee.

Before Gupta’s tenure on the council began, he served on South San Francisco’s Planning Commission for three years, including one year as its chair. An electrical engineer by trade, he earned his master’s and doctorate in the field before beginning his 30-year career working at companies such as Southern California Edison, Systems Control Inc., Electric Power Research Institute and Synergic Resources International.
