MUMBAI (Diya TV) — A Norwegian man who says he spent years homeless on the streets of Mumbai has sparked intense debate online after sharing his story in a series of emotional social videos.

The man, identified as Lasse J. Lund, claimed he was born in Norway to a Norwegian father and a Finnish mother but spent much of his childhood struggling to survive in India. His videos quickly gained attention because of his unusual background and his distinct accent, which blends Norwegian and Indian influences. Lasse, 33, said he became stranded in Mumbai after his parents brought him and his siblings to India during his childhood. According to his account, his father later returned to Norway while his mother allegedly went to jail for overstaying her visa. That left him homeless and alone in one of India’s busiest cities.

“I was lost between borders,” Lasse said in one video posted on his YouTube channel, “Unexpected Paths.”

He described himself as a Norwegian citizen who grew up on the streets of Mumbai. In several clips, he walked through crowded neighborhoods and revisited places connected to his past. Lasse said he spent his teenage years sleeping in temples, mosques, and public spaces across Mumbai. He claimed he survived by working as a tourist guide and relying on help from residents.

He also visited Dharavi, one of the world’s largest slums, which he described as a place tied closely to his childhood memories. In his videos, Lasse repeatedly praised poor families in India for helping him during difficult times. He said strangers often showed him more compassion than people in his own family.

“The people who were poor had the biggest hearts,” he said.

Lasse claimed that wealthy friends connected to his parents offered him little support while he struggled to survive. The videos show him meeting people from his past and thanking those who helped him as a child. He said he hopes to one day repay their kindness.

“And the day I become big, I’m going to help everyone back,” he said.

Lasse said the Finnish embassy eventually helped him leave India before he turned 18. He later returned to Europe and now holds dual citizenship in Finland and Norway. However, he argued that both governments failed to properly support him after his return. Lasse said he had little formal education and struggled to adjust to life in Europe. He claimed authorities ignored obvious warning signs about his background and failed to investigate his situation.

“The Finnish embassy, when they helped me out of the country, they were supposed to report me to child services,” he said in one video. “Did they do their job? No, they didn’t do their job.”

He also criticized officials for not questioning why a teenager from a wealthy European country lacked basic schooling.

“No European from one of the richest countries in the world doesn’t have schooling,” he said. “There must be a reason.”

Lasse said he is now sharing his story publicly in hopes of finding justice and raising awareness about children who fall through gaps in government systems.

Lasse’s story spread rapidly online, where viewers reacted with a mix of sympathy, curiosity, and skepticism. Many social media users focused on the way he speaks English. His accent combines Scandinavian and Indian influences, which several viewers found surprising. One commenter said they were “blown away” by his Norwegian and Indian English fusion accent. Another viewer noted that his speech patterns strongly resemble the English commonly heard in Mumbai. Others questioned whether his claims were true. Some users demanded proof and said they remained skeptical until more evidence emerged.

“I’m just going to assume this is fake unless someone provides compelling evidence,” one commenter wrote.

Despite the doubts, many viewers said the emotional tone of Lasse’s videos and his detailed memories of Mumbai made his story difficult to ignore. His YouTube uploads continue to attract attention as online audiences debate whether the Norwegian man’s unusual childhood story is real. For now, Lasse appears determined to keep sharing his experiences and reconnecting with the people and places that shaped his life on the streets of Mumbai.
