SAN JOSE (Diya TV) — Chinmaya Mission San Jose marked the organization’s 75th anniversary with its “Sing Gita, Live Gita” celebration Sunday at PayPal Park Epicenter.
The Sept. 6 event was part of the global Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav commemorating 75 years of the Chinmaya Movement. The program ran from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and included religious, educational and cultural activities.
An interactive Gita Mela featured 18 exhibits, each representing a chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. The program also included Indian music and dance performances and a cultural presentation inspired by Lord Krishna.
The evening concluded with participants collectively chanting Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita in the presence of Swami Swaroopananda, global head of Chinmaya Mission.
Indian classical vocalist Mahesh Kale was among the musicians associated with the program, along with devotional and community music groups.
India’s Consul General in San Francisco, Satish Sivan, attended as guest of honor. He met Swami Swaroopananda and Swami Shantananda, head of Chinmaya Mission West and Chinmaya Mission San Jose.
Sivan acknowledged Chinmaya Mission’s work in promoting the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Indian cultural traditions, according to the Indian Consulate’s social media account.
The San Jose gathering was one of a series of events organized worldwide to commemorate Chinmaya Mission’s 75th anniversary.
