SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) – After months of struggling to raise capital and find gear, India’s women’s national ice hockey team made history with its first-ever win coming Thursday in an international contest against the Philippines at the Challenge Cup of Asia.

India’s women scored their first goal of the game during the second period, which would end up being the contest’s most decisive tally. The game would end in a 4-3 final after both sides woke up in the third period, scoring three goals each.

Last year, India debuted the team at the Asia Cup in Taiwan, it was the first time any of the women had played in a professional game. Despite the small advancement, the team continued to struggle to find a proper rink to train at, and were lacking the necessary equipment.
