NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — India has delivered emergency humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit Venezuela under Operation Amistad, strengthening relief efforts after two powerful earthquakes devastated the South American nation. The supplies arrived on Sunday, bringing medical equipment, relief materials, and a fully equipped field hospital to support rescue and recovery operations.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed the arrival of the assistance in a post on X. He said India’s humanitarian support would help ongoing relief work in Venezuela. He also shared photographs showing the delivery of the supplies.
“Indian assistance reaches Venezuela. Confident that the Field Hospital Unit, relief supplies, medicines, and medical equipment will bolster ongoing post-earthquake relief efforts in the country. #OperationAmistad,” Jaishankar wrote.
The Indian Air Force also announced the successful completion of the long-distance humanitarian mission. According to the IAF, two C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft completed a demanding 23-hour journey from New Delhi to Caracas. The aircraft covered more than 14,000 kilometers before landing at Maiquetía International Airport.
The mission delivered nearly 66 tonnes of humanitarian aid. The shipment included an Indian Army field hospital, more than 35 tonnes of relief supplies, medicines, medical equipment, and two BHISHM Cubes. These portable emergency medical units can provide rapid healthcare support during disasters.
The IAF said the operation highlighted India’s ability to respond quickly during international emergencies. It also described the mission as another example of India’s growing role as a trusted humanitarian partner. Furthermore, the Air Force said the deployment demonstrated the country’s commitment to delivering timely assistance across continents whenever needed.
India launched Operation Amistad after powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening. The government announced the humanitarian mission to support rescue teams and provide urgent medical assistance. As part of the operation, two IAF C-17 aircraft departed India on Friday carrying relief supplies and a 41-member rescue team.
Earlier, on June 26, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed solidarity with Venezuela during the crisis. The ministry said India stands shoulder to shoulder with the government and the people of Venezuela during this difficult period. That statement reaffirmed India’s commitment to providing immediate support following major natural disasters.
Meanwhile, rescue teams continue searching for survivors across the affected regions. The earthquakes measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, making them among the strongest to strike Venezuela in more than 100 years. The tremors caused widespread destruction and were felt across neighboring areas.
The disaster has claimed at least 1,430 lives, according to the latest official figures released on Saturday. However, authorities expect that number to rise because thousands of people remain missing. In addition, many communities continue to face severe damage to homes, hospitals, roads, and other essential infrastructure.
As rescue efforts continue, medical assistance remains one of the highest priorities. Therefore, India’s field hospital and medical teams are expected to play an important role in treating injured survivors and supporting local healthcare services. The medicines and emergency equipment will also help hospitals that have struggled to manage the growing number of patients.
