SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers is taking on a new challenge. The two-time NBA Executive of the Year is leaving his role as an ESPN basketball analyst to become president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), a global sports and entertainment company with investments in multiple major leagues.

In his new full-time role, Myers will oversee HBSE’s sports operations, working to maximize opportunities and strengthen processes across its wide-ranging portfolio. HBSE owns the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, the New Jersey Devils of the NHL, Crystal Palace F.C. of the English Premier League, and holds an investment in Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR.

Myers will also continue to support Josh Harris, managing partner of the Washington Commanders, after helping shape the NFL team’s front office last year. His appointment reflects HBSE’s focus on growing its global presence and creating a unified strategy across its sports properties.

Despite Myers’ arrival, HBSE emphasized that there will be no changes to the reporting structure of its teams. Presidents of basketball and hockey operations will continue to report directly to their respective ownership groups.

Still, Myers’ influence is expected to be significant. Known for his leadership and relationship-building skills, he will work closely with HBSE ownership and senior leaders to develop long-term strategies for success. HBSE co-founders Josh Harris and David Blitzer welcomed Myers with strong words of confidence.

“Our goal has been to hire, grow, and retain the best and brightest executives in the world, and we are a stronger, more dynamic organization with the addition of Bob Myers,” Harris and Blitzer said in a joint statement. “His experience as an architect of championship teams will complement our existing leadership structure while allowing HBSE to maximize opportunities across our portfolio.”

Myers, who will remain based in California, will travel regularly to HBSE and Commander’s properties for meetings, events, and games. Myers’ career has been defined by success. Before joining the Warriors’ front office in 2011, he spent 14 years as a sports agent, representing NBA players and negotiating contracts.

As Golden State’s general manager and president of basketball operations, Myers built one of the most successful dynasties in NBA history. Under his leadership, the Warriors won four NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. He also earned NBA Executive of the Year honors in 2015 and 2017.

Myers’ ability to balance analytics, culture, and player relationships became a model for modern sports management. His tenure helped shape the Warriors into a global brand and solidified his reputation as one of the most respected executives in sports.

After stepping down from the Warriors in 2023, Myers joined ESPN as a basketball analyst. He appeared on pregame and postgame shows, offering insight drawn from his years in NBA front offices. While he valued his time at ESPN, Myers said the opportunity to join HBSE was too exciting to pass up.

“I have been fortunate to know Josh and David for a long time, and I’ve always admired how they’ve built such an impressive global sports portfolio,” Myers said. “This role was intriguing because it offers the chance to work with some of the most talented leaders in the industry across the world’s biggest sports leagues.”

He added, “By leveraging HBSE’s global presence, we can create competitive advantages that enhance our ability to win. This is the type of challenge I was looking for, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
