BETHLEHEM, Penn. (Diya TV) — Lehigh University today announced that former U.S. Ambassador to India and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma will be its first President’s Distinguished Fellow, starting on February 1, 2025.
Class of 1990 alumnus and Lehigh graduate Verma will spend six months engaging in discussions with students and the broader university community. Fellowship activities include mentoring students, leading discussions on pressing national and global issues; giving a public lecture; and sharing his leadership insights in adverse circumstances. Programs will be hosted from Lehigh’s Bethlehem campus as well as New York City and Washington, D.C.
Lehigh University President Joseph J. Helble said, “Rich Verma’s distinguished career in government, diplomacy, and international relations brings a wealth of knowledge to our campus. His ongoing engagement with our students has already inspired many, and this fellowship will provide our community with further opportunities to learn from his expertise.
Verma is an alumnus of public service and private sectors, holding high-profile positions, including Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs, National Security Advisor to the Senate Majority Leader, and General Counsel at Mastercard. In addition, he served in the United States Air Force, with various military decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
The President’s Distinguished Fellowship at Lehigh highlights the importance that the university attaches to student preparation for an increasingly complex and dynamic world.
