WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Federal agents searched former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s Washington home and seized electronic devices as part of an investigation involving sexual assault allegations, according to a person familiar with the inquiry.

Agents stopped Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, served a warrant and seized his electronic devices. The following day, agents searched his Washington home.

The FBI has not publicly detailed the investigation, and authorities have not announced any charges. Swalwell has denied the allegations.

Swalwell resigned from Congress in April and ended his campaign for California governor after several women accused him of sexual misconduct.

Authorities in New York and Los Angeles are also examining allegations involving the former California congressman. Most sex crimes are prosecuted under state law, but federal investigators are reportedly examining whether civil rights laws apply.

In April, a former Swalwell staffer told The San Francisco Chronicle that he sexually assaulted her in a New York hotel room after a 2024 event. She alleged she was too intoxicated to consent and that Swalwell ignored her attempts to refuse the encounter.

Three other women separately told CNN that Swalwell engaged in sexual misconduct, including allegedly sending unsolicited explicit messages or photographs. Swalwell has denied their claims.

The FBI searches mark the latest development in the investigations. Officials have not disclosed what evidence they are seeking or what information may be contained on the seized devices.

Swalwell, a longtime critic of President Donald Trump, served on the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Earlier this week, the White House released previously classified documents from a separate investigation involving Swalwell’s relationship with Christine Fang, whom U.S. counterintelligence officials suspected of ties to Chinese intelligence. That matter is not believed to be connected to the current investigation.

Federal, state and local investigations into the allegations remain ongoing.
