PALO ALTO, Calif. (Diya TV) — Gainsight, a leading customer retention and success platform, announced the promotion of Chuck Ganapathi to chief executive officer. Nick Mehta, who has served as CEO for 13 years, will take on a new role as board member and special advisor to the CEO.
Ganapathi, previously Gainsight’s president and chief operating officer, has more than 25 years of experience in CRM, AI, and enterprise software. He has held leadership roles at Salesforce, Siebel, and Tact.ai.
“Chuck has been transformational to Gainsight,” Mehta said. “Under his leadership, we launched our CustomerOS product strategy, accelerated our AI transformation, led key acquisitions, and strengthened our human-first culture. He’s the right person to guide Gainsight into the agentic era.”
John Stalder, managing director at Vista Equity Partners and Gainsight board member, added, “As Gainsight enters this next chapter, we’re excited for the future with Chuck. He brings the perfect blend of strategy and operational excellence to extend Gainsight’s leadership and accelerate its vision for retention-as-a-service.”
Retention has become crucial for software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies. With software easily commoditized and switching costs near zero, keeping customers is more important than ever. Gainsight has embraced an AI-first approach, pioneering what it calls Retention-as-a-Service. This model uses Atlas AI Agents and the CustomerOS platform to help companies manage post-sales relationships and drive customer success.
“As OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said, we’re entering the ‘fast fashion era of SaaS,’ where outcomes are the only real moat,” Ganapathi said. “Every customer must be treated like your best customer. That’s what Gainsight is designed for. I’m honored to carry the torch into Gainsight’s next chapter.”
Since joining Gainsight 18 months ago, Ganapathi has led major transformations. He expanded the CustomerOS platform and accelerated growth through the company’s agentic product roadmap.
Recent achievements include acquisitions of Staircase AI, UpdateAI, and ModerateKit to strengthen agentic innovation. Gainsight also introduced Renewal AI, the first autonomous agent in the Atlas family, which is currently in pilot with charter clients and has hundreds of organizations on the waitlist.
The company has seen strong growth across its products. Staircase AI experienced a fourfold increase in annual recurring revenue. Skilljar, another Gainsight product, had a record-breaking quarter, becoming one of the company’s largest offerings. Enterprise clients such as Adobe, DocuSign, and SAP have expanded their partnerships, with SAP marking the largest rollout in Gainsight’s history.
Gainsight’s flagship Customer Success platform now includes natively embedded AI capabilities powered by Staircase AI. This makes it the first platform to bring AI agents directly into the daily workflows of customer success teams.
Beyond technology, Gainsight has built one of the largest professional communities in enterprise software. The company has published six books and hosted more than 30,000 attendees at its global CxO and Pulse events. Mehta said the transition ensures Gainsight will continue to support its community while advancing its technology.
“All of the Gainsight you love—Pulse, our thought leadership, our platform—is only getting stronger,” Mehta said. “I’m proud of what we’ve built, grateful to our team and community, and excited to support Gainsight’s future on the board.”
