SAN ANTONIO (Diya TV) — There isn’t much left to be said about basketball star Tim Duncan, whose understated demeanor belied his intense pursuit to be the best at his craft. After leading the San Antonio Spurs to five NBA championships over nearly two decades of play, Duncan retired this summer, leaving a void the Spurs will not fill anytime soon.

To honor him, the Spurs formally retired Duncan’s #21 jersey and invited Indian speed painter Vilas Nayak to capture TD’s likeness in real-time. The effort speaks for itself.

You may recall Nayak came to the Bay Area this fall and dazzled the Hindu American Foundation gala audience with his speed and technique. HAF raised more than $500,000 thanks to the efforts of Nayak, among many others.

Nayak is a self taught artist original from Ujire in Karnataka. He started to paint at the age of 3, but decided to pursue his passion for art only recently. He was a finalist of India’s Got Talent, performed on Asia’s Got Talent and before the United Nations General Assembly.
