U.S. lawmakers met with Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss a multitude of topics, including the proposed restrictions on the H-1B visa program.

WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — A delegation of U.S. lawmakers visiting India met Monday with minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss a multitude of topics, including the proposed restrictions on the H-1B visa program.

Led by House Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte, the eight-member U.S. delegation and ministry officials held talks during a meeting that lasted 45 minutes. Goodlatte said, despite President Trump’s inexperience in the world of politics, he is an astute businessman. And he wants to do business with, among other nations, India.

According to The Press Trust of India, ministry officials raised the concerns of the country’s IT companies to the delegation. Outsourcing is a $110 billion a year business for Indian IT companies. These companies provide employment to just under four million people and represent nearly 10 percent of India’s gross domestic product.

American lawmakers raised concern over intellectual property rights, including the need to strengthen copyright norms and provisions to encourage and protect innovation.

An additional 19-person delegation of U.S. lawmakers are also visiting the country to discuss U.S.-India strategic ties under the aegis of Aspen Institute.
