CHICAGO (Diya TV) – One year after 33 year old Supraja Alaparthi was killed in a parasailing accident in the Florida Keys, her husband Srinivasro Alaparthi is speaking publicly for the first time. Alaparthi says his family has struggled over the last year since the tragedy and is now locked in a legal battle with the parasailing company and marina where the incident took place. Alaparthi’s 10-year-old son, and her 9-year-old nephew also sustained serious injuries. The boat captain, 49 year old Daniel Gavin Couch, continues to face manslaughter charges.

Indian American NYPD officer Sumit Sulan and nine others received the Medal of Valor from President Biden. Sulan was honored for shooting a felon who killed two fellow officers during a domestic violence call. Biden praised Sulan’s quick response and bravery, saving lives in just 45 seconds. The Medal of Valor recognizes exceptional courage and decisive action to protect human life.

California Governor Gavin Newsom nominated Indian Americans Sweena Pannu and Marsha Bipin Amin as Superior Court judges. Pannu will serve in the Stanislaus County Superior Court, while Amin will serve in the San Diego County Superior Court.
