ANAHEIM, Calif. (Diya TV) — Sujata Murthy, who serves as the senior vice president of public relations for Universal Music, was chosen as an honoree of the 2016 She Rocks Awards, presented by the National Association of Music Merchants, or NAMM—the event pays tribute annualy to women who display leadership and stand out within the music industry.

According to their website, NAMM bills itself as a non-for-profit association “that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music and strengthens the $17 billion global music products industry.”

In the ceremony, which took place at Anaheim’s Hilton Hotel, other 2016 honorees included singer-songwriter Chaka Khan, guitarist and author Jennifer Batten, Raining Jane bandmates Becky Gebhardt and Mona Tavakoli, and director of brand communications for Taylor Guitars’ Chalise Zolezzi just to name a few. The night featured live performances from the aforementioned, as well as several other honorees in attendance.

For Murthy, the recognition brings her efforts in the music industry to the forefront—as the leader of her team at Universal, Murthy is directly credited with the creation and continued growth of the company’s media campaigns across its emerging platforms. Additionally, during Murthy’s tenure, Universal Music has been recognized as the top catalogue record label for three straight years—2012, 2013 and 2014—according to Billboard Magazine.

Since it’s inception in 1934, Universal Music has represented a countless number of legendary and influential musicians.
