NEW YORK (Diya TV) — Senior Indian diplomat Surendra Adhana has been re-elected to the United Nations Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) for the 2024–2026 term. It will be his second consecutive term on the influential 18-member committee.

A seasoned Indian Foreign Service officer, Adhana has served in various postings that span bilateral and multilateral profiles. His tenure in Moscow advanced India–Russia relations across domains such as defense cooperation, nuclear energy, disaster management, and space exploration.

He was also a key coordinator for high-level Indian delegations attending summits like the G20 and BRICS, where he helped align India’s foreign policy agenda with evolving global issues.

He also served at the Indian Consulate in Houston, where he worked closely with Texas-based universities, corporate leaders, trade bodies, and the 500,000-strong Indian diaspora. Through sustained outreach and strategic engagement, he helped boost India–Texas bilateral trade to over $10 billion, according to official consular estimates.

Adhana has also held significant administrative responsibilities within India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the operations of India’s largest passport office, located in New Delhi. Under his leadership, the office processed over one million passport applications despite strict health restrictions and logistical hurdles.

Members serve in their personal capacity and are responsible for reviewing expenditures, resource requests, and internal financial policies before they reach the General Assembly. Adhana’s re-election gives India continued representation at the committee during a period when fiscal oversight and resource efficiency have become central to UN reforms.
