NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Central Sanskrit University has conferred the title of “Vedantavidya-Vishwaguru” on Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. Bhadreshdas Swami, recognizing his contributions to Vedanta, Sanskrit scholarship and Indian philosophy.
The university presented the honor during a ceremony at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi.
Dr. Bhadreshdas Swami is known for his work on Akshar-Purushottam Darshan and for establishing its philosophical framework within the classical Sanskrit Prasthantrayi tradition.
Prof. Srinivasa Varkhedi of Central Sanskrit University highlighted those contributions while explaining the university’s decision to confer the title.
Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of the Pejavara Adhokshaja Matha in Udupi also attended the ceremony and praised Bhadreshdas Swami’s scholarship.
After receiving the honor, Bhadreshdas Swami dedicated it to Bhagwan Swaminarayan and his gurus, Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Mahant Swami Maharaj.
Bhadreshdas Swami has authored several major works on Vedanta. His Swaminarayan Bhashyam provides Sanskrit commentaries on the Prasthantrayi, which includes the Upanishads, Brahmasutras and Bhagavad Gita.
He also wrote Swaminarayan Siddhanta Sudha, which presents and explains the principles of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan and the Vedantic philosophy associated with Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
Bhadreshdas Swami currently heads the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute in New Delhi. He also serves as a distinguished professor at IIT Kharagpur and a distinguished visiting professor at IIT Roorkee.
His previous recognitions include the Sahitya Akademi Award, Saraswati Samman and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Council of Philosophical Research. He has also received honors from Sanskrit and academic institutions in India and abroad.
The Shri Kashi Vidvat Parishad has formally recognized him as an acharya in the tradition of classical Sanskrit commentators.
The “Vedantavidya-Vishwaguru” title adds to a career centered on Sanskrit scholarship and the study and global presentation of Vedanta.
