WASHINGTON(Diya TV) — Three U.S. Secret Service officials, including Communications Director Anthony Guglielmi, have gone on administrative leave as the agency investigates possible misconduct.
A source familiar with the decision told CNN that all three officials work in the Secret Service communications office. The source said the officials also lost their security clearances and access to work devices. Such steps can occur during internal investigations.
The Secret Service confirmed that three non-law enforcement employees are on leave. However, the agency did not identify them or explain the alleged misconduct.
“Three non-law enforcement personnel at the U.S. Secret Service have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct,” an agency spokesperson said Tuesday.
The agency said its Office of Professional Responsibility will handle the investigation. It also said the agency will not comment further while the review continues.
The Secret Service said it expects its employees to maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity. The agency also stressed its mission to protect the president and other senior government officials.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Guglielmi said he has cooperated fully with the investigation. Gregg Bernstein, a Maryland attorney who represents Guglielmi, described him as a professional with a long record of public service.
Bernstein also said Guglielmi respects the Secret Service and its mission. He added that Guglielmi will continue to cooperate with investigators.
The investigation comes as the Secret Service faces growing scrutiny. In recent years, the agency has dealt with several major security incidents involving President Donald Trump.
The agency has faced questions following several assassination attempts targeting Trump. One major incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, led to the resignation of then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. The agency later made broader changes to its security operations.
Guglielmi played a key communications role during those events. He also previously led communications for the Chicago and Baltimore police departments during periods of major civil unrest.
More recently, the Secret Service has faced questions over security concerns surrounding Trump’s travel. Reports this summer said officials secretly prepared to move the president to safety from Turkey amid concerns about possible threats from Iran.
Those reports also prompted a leak investigation. Some Secret Service personnel faced questioning after information about the security concerns became public.
FBI Director Kash Patel helped launch the initial leak investigation from the White House, according to reports.
The latest investigation follows another internal review involving a Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance’s security detail.
The agency placed that agent on leave in July after investigators suspected the person leaked information about Vance’s travel. That investigation remains open.
However, the agency has not said whether the latest investigation connects to that case. It also has not disclosed what conduct prompted the current review.
For now, the three officials remain on administrative leave while investigators examine the allegations. The Secret Service has not announced when the investigation will end.
The agency continues to carry out its protective mission as the review proceeds. At the same time, officials face pressure to maintain public trust and ensure that employees follow the standards expected of the nation’s leading protective agency.
