WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Right-wing activist Laura Loomer, once a close ally of former President Donald Trump, is facing enormous backlash over a racist comment targeting Vice President Kamala Harris’ Indian heritage. Loomer’s post has been widely condemned by political figures and social media users alike.
The controversy erupted after Harris shared a Grandparents’ Day post on social media. In her message, Harris reflected on her childhood visits to India, highlighting how her grandfather, a retired civil servant involved in India’s independence movement, would take her on early morning walks to discuss the importance of fighting for equality and combating corruption. Harris also praised her grandmother for her efforts to educate women about birth control, emphasizing her family’s legacy of public service and social change.
Loomer responded by retweeting Harris’s post with a derogatory comment: “If @KamalaHarris wins, the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center and the American people will only be able to convey their feedback through a customer satisfaction survey at the end of the call that nobody will understand.”
Georgia GOP Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene took to X to denounce Loomer’s comment. She stated, “This is appalling and extremely racist. This does not represent who we are as Republicans or MAGA. This does not represent President Trump. This kind of behavior should never be tolerated. @LauraLoomer should take this down.”
Greene’s response reflects growing concern within conservative circles about the impact of such comments on the broader political climate.
Social media users also expressed their outrage. Many condemned Loomer’s remarks as offensive and harmful. Comments included, “That’s very racist,” and, “Ok very unnecessary and racist. You aren’t helping Trump at all.” Critics argue that Loomer’s actions could negatively affect Trump’s public image and electoral prospects.
Kamala Harris, whose parents Shyamala Gopalan and Donald Harris were immigrants to the U.S., has long embraced both her Black and Indian heritage. This dual identity has played a significant role in shaping her public persona and personal narrative.
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, when asked to comment on Loomer’s remarks, said “it is, repugnant, these types of comments, it is un-American to say these types of things, exactly the kind of hateful and divisive rhetoric that we should denounce.”
