SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. (Diya TV) — The Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA) announced the successful celebration of Paryushan and Das Lakshan, two of Jainism’s most important festivals, across the United States and Canada. Thousands of Jain families came together this week in prayer, fasting, meditation, and forgiveness, marking a time of deep reflection and unity.
Paryushan and Das Lakshan hold a special place in the Jain faith. The festivals encourage Jains to pause, reflect, and renew their spiritual lives through self-discipline and compassion. The observance includes daily prayers, scriptural readings, meditation sessions, and community service. Many Jains also practiced fasting to embrace discipline and deepen self-awareness.
The celebrations ended with Kshamapana, a ritual of forgiveness. Families and friends exchanged heartfelt words such as “Micchami Dukkadam,” “Uttam Kshama,” and “Khamat Khamana,” meaning “I seek forgiveness for any hurt caused.” This act of humility and reconciliation reflects the Jain principle of peace and harmony.
JAINA President Bindesh Shah said the gatherings showed the power of community. “Paryushan gives us a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and renew ourselves with compassion and forgiveness,” Shah said. “Across North America, it was heartening to see Jains, young and old, come together to honor this tradition and strengthen our community bonds.”
The events took place in Jain temples, community centers, and homes across the continent. From New York to California, and from Toronto to Houston, Jain families joined together in a spirit of unity and peace.
Founded in 1981, JAINA is the largest Jain umbrella organization outside India. It represents more than 70 Jain centers and organizations across North America. The group continues to promote the timeless values of Jainism: Ahimsa (non-violence), Aparigraha (non-attachment), and Anekantavada (non-absolutism).
