NEW YORK (Diya TV) — A Pakistani citizen residing in Canada has been extradited to the United States on terrorism-related charges after allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired mass shooting targeting a Jewish community center in Brooklyn, federal authorities announced Monday.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, arrived in the U.S. on June 10 following his extradition from Canada. He is charged with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization, and attempting to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Khan is expected to make his initial court appearance in the Southern District of New York on June 11. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said Khan had intended to “use automatic weapons to kill as many members of our Jewish community as possible, all in support of ISIS,” calling the plan “deadly and antisemitic.”

According to court documents, Khan allegedly began expressing support for ISIS on social media and encrypted messaging platforms in November 2023. He reportedly distributed ISIS propaganda videos and literature and later began communicating with two undercover law enforcement officers posing as extremists. During these exchanges, Khan shared his plans to carry out a mass shooting in New York.

Federal authorities said Khan intended to enter the U.S. from Canada and carry out his attack on October 7, 2024, the first anniversary of the Hamas-led terrorist assault on Israel. The FBI said Khan specifically targeted a Jewish center in Brooklyn for his attack.

He was arrested by Canadian authorities on September 4, 2024, based on a complaint filed in the Southern District of New York. The coordinated efforts of U.S. and Canadian intelligence and law enforcement agencies led to the successful disruption of the plot before Khan could cross the border.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the plot underscores the persistent threat posed by ISIS and other extremist organizations. “Khan allegedly tried to enter the United States to commit an attack on the Jewish community in New York City,” Patel said in a statement on social media. “Thanks to the great work of the FBI’s New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles field offices, as well as our Canadian partners, this plot was foiled before lives were lost.”

Attorney General Pamela Bondi added, “ISIS remains a clear and present danger to the American people, and our Jewish citizens are especially targeted by evil groups like these.”

The case has heightened concerns over the rising number of threats targeting Jewish communities worldwide. “This case is a reminder of the constant threat of terrorism facing every corner of the world — as well as the disturbing rise in threats against our Jewish communities,” Patel said.

Khan now faces federal prosecution in New York, where prosecutors have pledged to pursue the case vigorously. “Thanks to the diligent work of our law enforcement partners and the career prosecutors in this office, Khan will now face justice,” said U.S. Attorney Clayton.
