Niraj Antani

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Diya TV) — Republican state representative Niraj Antani was awarded the 2016 Legislator of the Year award by AMVETS Department of Ohio.

Each year, AMVETS Department of Ohio recognizes legislators who have shown continued support of veterans issues and demonstrated the ideals and goals of the AMVETS Department of Ohio.

At 23 years of age, Niraj Antani, an Indian-American, defeated 62-year-old Democrat Patrick Morris to take a seat in Ohio’s state House of Representatives in the 2014 midterm elections in the United States. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Ohio State University, and was selected while he was studying law at the University of Dayton as a replacement candidate for the Republican Party after the incumbent, Terry Blair, passed away.

“I am very thankful to AMVETS for this award, but I am more thankful for all the veterans they serve who protected our nation while in the military,” Antani said in a statement. “I will continue to fight for our veterans at the Statehouse. The post 9/11 veteran unemployment rate in Ohio is abysmal. Our veterans deserve better when they return home, and I will fight for them.”
