MILPITAS, Calif. (Diya TV) — A man has been arrested for the slaying of 27-year-old Vamshi Chander Reddy Mamidala last week, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today on Twitter. Assistance is being provided to Mamidala’s family, she added. The 26 year old from Telangana had moved to California in 2013 to pursue his Masters Degree. He was hoping to build a career in the software industry.

“He was worried about finding a software job there. I asked him to come back and find a job here. We wanted to get him married. He said he would come back home soon but we did not expect such a thing to happen to him,” Vamshi’s father Sanjeeva Reddy told reporters on Sunday.

A native of Telangana, Mamidala moved to the U.S. in 2013 to complete his master’s degree at Silicon Valley University. He was discovered with gunshot wounds by police in a parking garage near his apartment building. Mamidala was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanjeeva Reddy, Mamidala’s father, had spoken to his son just two days before the shooting took place. Still unable to find a job in the technology sector, Mamidala had been working part-time at a local convenience store.

“He was worried about finding a software job there. I asked him to come back and find a job here. We wanted to get him married. He said he would come back home soon but we did not expect such a thing to happen to him,” Sanjeeva told NDTV.

Earlier in the evening, police has responded to a call of a stolen vehicle at the Ilara Apartments in Milpitas, Calif. A caller told police that a man had pointed two guns at her and taken her car, according to Milpitas police Lt. Raj Maharaj. As officers were responding to the call, they heard the echo of a single gunshot coming from a parking structure nearby.

Mamidala was found inside the parking structure suffering from a gunshot wound.

Reddy has appealed to Telangana and central governments to bring back Vamshi’s body without any delay. Warangal MLA, Aroori Ramesh visited the grieving family in Telangana and consoled them. He assured to extend all possible help to bring back Vamshi’s remains.
