COLUMBUS, Ohio (Diya TV) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 173 into law on Tuesday, designating October as Hindu Heritage Month in Ohio. The legislation recognizes the contributions of the Hindu community to the state’s cultural, economic, and social fabric.

The bill was also supported by the first Hindu member of the Ohio Senate, Niraj Antani, in an attempt that he termed a historic move for the community. “It is an honor to work on this legislation with such great advocacy,” Antani said. As the first Hindu state senator in Ohio’s 221 years, I am incredibly proud of the work put into this bill.”

The new law seeks to create a sense of cultural awareness and unity across Ohio, where a growing Hindu population calls home. Advocates of the bill argue that there is a need to celebrate the heritage and diversity that Hindu Americans bring to the state.

Governor DeWine lauded the move and said the legislation is another demonstration of how inclusive and supportive Ohio is when it comes to celebrating all of its communities and recognitions.

“This is an excellent opportunity for honoring the culture, traditions, and contributions that Hindu people contribute,” he continued while signing during a ceremony, referring to the bill just signed into place.
