NEW YORK (Diya TV) — Mayor Eric Adams on Monday greeted members of New York City’s Indian American community at City Hall, celebrating their contributions and reaffirming their place in the city’s future. Adams commended the community’s achievements in business, technology, healthcare, and public service, citing their commitment to the city’s economic and cultural landscape.

“Throughout the five boroughs, you will see our Indian community hard at work, getting things done for their fellow New Yorkers,” Adams said. “Today, I happily welcomed many of them to remind them that they always have a seat at our table.”

The Indian American community is among the fastest-growing ethnic communities in New York, with more than 700,000 members in the metropolitan area, based on census figures. Business, nonprofit, and local government leaders attended the meeting, sharing ideas on how to enhance civic participation and tackle issues facing the community.

Community advocates emphasized the need for political representation and access to resources for small businesses. They also voiced their concerns over issues of education, immigration policies, and public safety.

“This recognition from the mayor is heartwarming,” declared Queens-based entrepreneur Ravi Patel. “We want to keep helping make the city successful and ensure that our voices are being heard in government.”

The event fits into Adams’ larger initiative to reach out to various communities in New York. His government has been keen on building bridges with immigrant communities, recognizing their contribution to the city’s social and economic growth.

We will continue to work together to ensure that all communities, including our Indian American community, have the resources and opportunities they are entitled to,” Adams said. The mayor’s office stated it would continue to talk with community leaders to bring about more cooperation and inclusivity in city policies.
