OTTAWA, Canada (Diya TV) — Canada’s spy agency issued a warning that India and China are two countries likely to engage in interference in the nation’s April 28 general election. The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) also listed Russia and Pakistan as possible actors.
Vanessa Lloyd, CSIS’s deputy director of operations, remarked at a news conference that more foreign actors are employing artificial intelligence to manipulate democratic processes. She mentioned India’s “intent and capability to interfere in Canadian communities and democratic processes.”
India has in the past dismissed claims of election interference. In January, a report found that while India and China tried to interfere in Canada’s 2019 and 2021 elections, the interference did not affect the outcome.
There have been increased tensions between India and Canada over the past few months. In October 2024, Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, alleging they were behind activities targeting Sikh separatists in Canada. In return, India expelled six Canadian diplomats, deepening tensions between the nations.
