UPDATE: Shyalan “Shay” Shah found safe after a one week search. His father Richard Shah confirmed on Facebook that Shay is back home safe and sound.
NEW YORK (Diya TV) — New Jersey teen Shyalan Shah is missing. Parents of the 19-year old are desperately seeking assistance after their son disappeared from his New Jersey residence on the morning of July 15th. Shyalan “Shay” Shah was last seen in the vicinity of Linda Lane and Westgate Drive in Edison, New Jersey, according to local authorities.
The Edison Police Department issued an alert describing Shah as an “Indian male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 140 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.” The alert specified that Shah “left the area on foot.” Rich and Kalpana Shah, the worried parents, took to Facebook to implore anyone with information to contact them. “We have not heard from or been able to contact our son Shay… If you’ve heard from him today, or hear from him or see him going forward, please let me, Kalpana or Sahil know. Our priority is to get in touch with him,” the heartfelt appeal read.
Community members are rallied together, reposting and sharing the parents’ plea on various social media platforms in the hopes of locating the missing boy. On Twitter, a verified user shared a message on behalf of the father, urging people to come forward with any information.
“Our son Shaylan ‘Shay’ Shah has been missing since Saturday (July 15), approximately 5.50 a.m… We have confirmation Shay was last seen at Newark Penn Station on Saturday morning around 11 a.m. Unfortunately, we do not know where Shay is heading at this time. We are still deeply concerned about Shay’s well-being and appreciate any ongoing support in locating him,” the tweet expressed.
This recent incident echoes previous cases involving Indian-American teenagers who went missing. In March, 15-year-old Tanvi Marupally vanished from her high school in Arkansas but was eventually found safe in Florida after an exhaustive two-month search. In May, 25-year-old Lahari Pathivada went missing from Texas and was tragically discovered deceased, approximately 322 km away in neighboring Oklahoma, a day after her disappearance while en route to work.
