SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — NBC is amping up the network’s comedy appetite, ordering comedy pilots from a slew of sitcom A-listers. Among those, NBC has chosen to pick up a new comedy from Indian-American Mindy Kaling, whose new show is a co-production with Charlie Grandy.

The series is still untitled, but it is a single-camera comedy that centers on a character named Vince, a charismatic gym owner with no ambition who lives with his younger brother Michael, a gorgeous idiot. Their lives, centered around women and working out, are tossed upside down when Vince’s teenage son is dropped off on their doorstep by Priya, one of his old high school girlfriends.

Kaling will play Priya, a recurring character. The show marks her return to broadcast TV, after NBC’s “The Office” and “The Mindy Project,” which is now on Hulu, after several seasons at Fox. Kaling’s casting had not been previously announced when the project was in development.

Kaling and Grandy previously worked together on “The Mindy Project” and “The Office.” They co-created the pilot and serve as writers and executive producers. The pilot marks the first major signing for Kaling under her recent multi-year deal with Universal TV, which she signed last summer for acting, writing and producing.
