1461518422-1374(Diya TV) — Mississippi state officials have chosen to honor Dr. Sampat Shivangi by naming a street after him, in recognition for his service to the state.

The official name of the doctor’s street will be known as Dr. Sampat Shivangi Lane.

In 2014, Shivangi was appointed as the Chairman of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, the first such promotion for an individual of Asian descent in any southern state. Additionally, Shivangi served as the advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services from 2005 through 2008.

He previously chaired the India Association of Mississippi, and is also the founder and president of the American Association of Physicians of Indian-origin in Mississippi.

This week, Mississippi governor Phil Bryant reappointed Shivangi for a second term to the Board of Mississippi’s Department of Mental Health — a term which extends seven years. His role plays a major part in the care for the state’s mentally ill population, the development of those with intellectual disabilities, and those struggling with drug and alcohol abuse.
