FRESNO, Calif. (Diya TV) — A man was shot and killed Monday evening in northwest Fresno in what police are calling a targeted attack. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Kuvar Kumar.

The deadly shooting happened around 6:50 p.m. near the intersection of North State Street and West Acacia Avenue, just south of Shaw Avenue. Fresno Police say Kumar had just arrived home and was in his vehicle when the gunfire began.

When officers responded to the scene, they found Kumar with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed this marks the 12th homicide of the year in Fresno.

Investigators say Kumar was returning to his residence on the 4700 block of North State Street when the shooting occurred. Two people were inside the home at the time, including Kumar’s brother. Police say those inside the home heard the gunshots and immediately called 911.

Authorities believe Kumar was specifically targeted. They emphasized that this was not a random shooting. Officials are describing the incident as an “interpersonal” conflict, though no further details about a possible motive have been released.

At the scene, officers found two different types of shell casings. Detectives say the evidence suggests that there were two shooters. Witnesses also reported seeing a dark-colored sedan leaving the area shortly after the shots were fired.

Police have not released any suspect names or descriptions. The investigation remains ongoing.

Detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. They are asking residents and businesses in the area to check security footage from the time of the shooting.

So far this year, Fresno has seen a dozen homicides, raising alarms among city leaders and law enforcement officials. Detectives say each case is unique, but note that many are connected to personal disputes or ongoing conflicts.
