LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Diya TV) — Kamala Harris will headline the 2026 Fisher Shackelford Dinner, a major annual event hosted by the Democratic Party of Arkansas, party officials announced. The event is set for April 25 at the Wally Allen Ballroom inside the Little Rock Convention Center. Organizers say the former vice president’s appearance marks her first keynote speech since the 2024 presidential election, where she ran as the Democratic nominee.
Party leaders describe Harris’ visit as a major moment for Arkansas Democrats. Vice chair Jannie Cotton called it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” and praised Harris as a national leader.
“We are honored she chose Arkansas,” Cotton said. “She represents the spirit of this event.”
The Fisher Shackelford Dinner serves as one of the party’s signature fundraising and recognition events. It draws party leaders, donors, rs, and activists from across the state and beyond. This year’s dinner will also honor several Arkansas figures, including Debrah Mitchell, Tippi McCullough, and Addie Jones.
Harris remains a central figure in national Democratic politics. She served as the 49th vice president under Joe Biden. During her tenure, she cast more tie-breaking votes in the Senate than any vice president in U.S. history.
She also made history as the first woman, first Black American, and first Indian American to hold the office. Party officials highlighted her work on key issues. These include reproductive rights, maternal health, gun violence, and economic opportunity. They also noted her efforts on student debt relief and global alliances.
The Arkansas event will mark Harris’ first major keynote address since her 2024 election loss to Donald Trump. Her campaign gained national attention for its rapid rise. Harris became the Democratic nominee after Biden ended his reelection bid following a difficult debate performance. She then launched a fast-paced campaign that broke fundraising records.
Despite strong financial support, Harris lost the election. In Arkansas, she received 33.6% of the vote, while Trump secured 64.2%. Her stop in Little Rock follows recent visits to other Southern states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Analysts say these appearances signal continued engagement with key regions ahead of future elections.
Harris’ visit comes at a time when Arkansas Democrats are trying to rebuild their presence. Republicans currently dominate statewide offices, the Legislature, and the congressional delegation. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a Republican, remains a prominent figure in the state and a potential national contender. Cotton said Harris’ appearance could energize voters and strengthen local campaigns.
“We want to make Arkansas more competitive again,” Cotton said. “Her message can help inspire people.”
The party hopes the event will draw attention to its efforts to organize and mobilize voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The Fisher Shackelford Dinner began in 2014. It honors the legacies of Lottie Shackelford and Jimmie Lou Fisher. Shackelford made history as the first Black woman elected mayor of Little Rock. Fisher served as Arkansas’s longest-serving state treasurer. Over the years, the dinner has recognized influential women in Arkansas public life. It has also played a key role in raising funds for Democratic candidates and initiatives.
