ATLANTA (Diya TV) — The AAPI Victory Fund teamed up with Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) to mobilize Georgia voters for the Harris-Walz presidential ticket. The Johns Creek canvass targeted canvassing directly towards Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters – a vital constituency in this battleground state. Hundreds of volunteers and community leaders met in Johns Creek to knock on doors and talk with voters about the importance of AAPI representation and civic participation.
Rep. Jayapal pointed to grassroots muscle by saying that knocking on doors “is not just supporting candidates; it’s building a movement for economic opportunity and fair representation.” The canvassing focused on Duluth voters who own a high number of AAPI-owned businesses while also supporting local candidates State Representative Michelle Au and State Senate hopeful Ashwin Ramaswami.
This race could be the acid test for Vice President Kamala Harris, and Georgia is always a crucial state in national elections,” said AAPI Victory Fund Chairman Shekar Narasimhan, noting that the energy reflected here was the collective power of all AAPIs and emphasized the importance of the AAPI vote in both local and national races.
The day wrapped up with a roundtable discussion with the SBA’s Dilawar Syed and a comedy night, courtesy of Jenny Yang, at Café Rothem. Both the debate and the stand-up comedy aimed to provide a discussion platform and boost volunteer morale.
This push is part of a much larger effort by Democrats to energize minority communities in Georgia, which has become increasingly competitive in recent election cycles. The AAPI community is one of the fastest-growing demographics in the country and was instrumental in flipping Georgia for Democrats in 2020, and will be crucial to do so again in 2024.
