WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Indiaspora, a leading U.S. nonprofit representing global Indian diaspora leaders, reaffirmed its strong belief in the resilience of U.S.-India relations during a statement released in the wake of a tariff standoff between these two democracies. Despite recent diplomatic tensions, the organization expressed hope that the setbacks are temporary and that the two nations will soon find common ground through ongoing talks.
The group emphasized that deep people-to-people ties between the United States and India remain the foundation of their bilateral relationship. With over 5 million Indian Americans living in the U.S., Indiaspora highlighted the community’s vital role in strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties.
Indiaspora called the Indian American community a “living bridge” between the world’s two largest democracies. The organization stated that Indian Americans have played a key role in deepening the relationship between the two nations over the past several decades.
“We take great pride in our deep bonds with both the United States—our homeland—and India—our country of origin,” Indiaspora said in its statement. “The Indian diaspora in America is are key contributor to making the relationship between the countries unique, special, deep-rooted, and impactful.”
The nonprofit highlighted Indian Americans’ significant contributions to the U.S. in fields like business, technology, academia, philanthropy, and the arts. These efforts, the group noted, have helped cultivate strong and lasting ties.
Recent diplomatic tensions, including those rooted in past trade disputes such as the U.S.-China trade war during President Donald Trump’s administration, have sparked concerns about the future of U.S.-India ties. However, Indiaspora expressed confidence that current issues are short-lived.
“We believe that the current setback in what is otherwise an enduring, robust, and broad-based people-to-people relationship will be temporary,” the organization said.
Indiaspora stated that it remains optimistic about the outcome of current diplomatic talks and believes that final agreements will reflect the shared aspirations of both nations and the global Indian diaspora.
For over a decade, Indiaspora has hosted high-level dialogues in both countries to strengthen U.S.-India cooperation. These events have aimed to foster mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration between policymakers and diaspora leaders.
The organization stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in these efforts, especially as global dynamics continue to shift.
“We believe the U.S.-India relationship is not just important—it is essential,” Indiaspora said. “This economic partnership should stand as a cornerstone for stability, innovation, and progress in the 21st century.”
In a separate statement, Indiaspora strongly condemned what it described as “shameful” racial targeting of Indian American leaders in U.S. public service during the current election cycle. The group criticized attacks against leaders from both political parties.
“At Indiaspora, we believe that such behavior stands in stark contrast to the higher values of inclusion, respect, and strength in diversity that our nation has aspired to hold and practice,” the organization said.
Indiaspora also pointed to recent data from its Impact Report, which revealed that there are currently 150 Indian Americans serving in senior roles within the U.S. government. This figure represents a 150% increase over the past decade.
The organization also noted that six Indian Americans now serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, with at least two more running in the upcoming elections. These numbers, it said, reflect a growing commitment to public service and civic engagement.
“The Indian diaspora in the United States cares deeply for the country and is committed to being a force for good,” Indiaspora stated. “We will continue to do our part in striving towards a nation that lives up to our highest ideals.”
