SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become such a popular figure on the internet, he has surpassed Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan’s follower count on Twitter.

As of Aug. 25, Modi had north of 22.1 million followers on his official Twitter page, Bachchan is just a few behind at 22 million. It’s just months after Modi passed Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan to become India’s second most followed with 17,371,600 followers.

Modi is a serious commodity in the Twittersphere — his follower count increased by one million every two months in 2015. It crossed the 15 million mark Sept. 22, 2015 touching 16 million Nov. 20. The final total, ironically, means Modi is the second most followed politician in the world after U.S. President Barack Obama.

Modi has used Twitter for campaigns like #MakeInIndia, #SwachBharat, #MannKiBaat and #SelfieWithDaughter to reach and connect with citizens.

His popularity may have something to do with the fact that he tweets often and for those who actually have a ‘Narendra Modi’ App, can receive push notifications of his tweets, speeches, public meetings & announcements.

He has over 12.4K Tweets and only follows a little over 1376 Twitter beings.
