DETROIT (Diya TV) — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez transferred $1 million Friday to a joint fundraising committee supporting Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, adding financial backing to her campaign appearances across the state.

The Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund brings together El-Sayed’s campaign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee.

Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., joined El-Sayed on a bus tour through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Thursday. She scheduled three additional appearances in the Detroit region Friday.

“I’m leaving everything I can on the field,” she said in a statement to The New York Times.

El-Sayed, a former Detroit health director, faces former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers in the Nov. 3 election. The race could help determine control of the Senate, where Republicans hold a fifty-three-to-forty-seven majority.

Democrats must defend the Michigan seat while winning Republican-held seats elsewhere to regain the chamber. El-Sayed narrowly defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in the Democratic primary. Former Vice President Kamala Harris has campaigned with him, and former President Barack Obama plans to visit Michigan later this month.

Ocasio-Cortez’s support for El-Sayed dates to his unsuccessful 2018 campaign for Michigan governor, when she endorsed him and traveled to the state. She also backed him during this year’s Senate primary.

Federal filings showed Ocasio-Cortez raised $4.7 million during the third quarter and entered October with nearly $17.4 million in campaign funds.
