SAN JOSE, Calif. (Diya TV) — Police have arrested a 63-year-old Indian-American man who they believe fatally shot his wife during the early morning hours of a Saturday in the couple’s Silver Creek home.

The shooting was reported at about 12:45 a.m. on April 30. When officers arrived, they found a woman with at least one gunshot wound. After being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead, police said.

Police identified the victim as 48-year-old Sonia Nallan, and have arrested her husband, James Nallan, in connection with the killing. Nallan has been booked into county jail on suspicion of murder. Police have not released any further information about the incident, including a motive, and said no other suspects are being sought at the moment.

Chris Nallan, the suspect’s younger brother, said he’d visited with the two in their home earlier the same afternoon. He said the family is in shock over the turn of events.

“They had a wonderful relationship,” he said.

James and Sonia had been married for decades, and met at a technology firm they both worked at, according to the brother. The couple has two children currently in college.

About seven years ago, James suffered severe injuries during an accident in his home, and was placed in a coma for several months. When he awoke from the slumber, his personality took a drastic turn, his brother said. He was know for his fun-loving and engaging nature, and soon became withdrawn and had unpredictable moods after the accident, he said.

He was unable to return to work, and his wife became his primary caretaker.

“She knew that he wasn’t right. She was very devout,” said Chris Nallan, pastor at the San Jose International Christian Center. “She was always there.”

At the time, the death marked San Jose’s 17th homicide of the year, and sixth in the past two weeks. Eight total homicides had been recorded during the same time a year ago.

Additionally, it was the second such incident in which police were called to investigate a suspected family shooting in the Evergreen/Silver Creek area — two brothers, 22-year-old Hasib Bin Golamrabbi and 17-year-old Omar Golamrabbi, were charged with double murder the same week in the April 23 killings of their parents, Golam Rabbi and Shamima Rabbi, at the Lucas Court home where the family lived.
