Ravi Jakhotia

WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Popular Indian-American DJ and drummer Ravi Jakhotia opened Thursday’s pre-inauguration concert festivities for President Donald Trump, performing in front of thousands on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Known by his fans as DJ Ravidrums, he was the first performer at Thursday’s concert.

The Indian American was awarded the People’s Choice Award for being the world’s best and most innovative DJ and drummer in 2010. Previously, Jakhotia performed at the pre-game show of the Super Bowl in 2008, alongside Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, then of American Idol fame. He also performed at the 2009 Academy Awards, playing two songs from the blockbuster hit, Slumdog Millionaire.

During an interview, Jakhotia said he accepted Trump’s invitation as an opportunity to bring diversity to the president’s inauguration celebration. It’s been a long road traveled for him and his family.

“My father came to America with $8, a one-way ticket and the pursuit of the American dream,” he said. He said his father taught his family to work hard and “appreciate what it is to be American.”
